What's It Worth? Royal Collectibles — Long May They Reign
Recently, a St. Petersburg resident sold us this large 6” x 5” ticket to Queen Victoria’s 1838 coronation ceremony. All Queen Victoria inaugural items are collectible and there were scores of versions of this ticket, as well as tickets to several associated balls and events.
The variations in tickets – size, wear, color and invitee – all affect the value. We paid $375 for this invitation, which was white when new, and is heavily embossed with the royal seal. Our auction estimate is $500-$700, a number that would be much higher if the invitation were not so soiled.
Last year, we wrote about Queen Victoria’s underwear (size 50), which we referred to as Victoria’s Secret (below). We’d like to repeat that although we love old paper goods and ephemera, we ask that you please refrain from bringing us any old underwear ... no matter how noble the provenance.
If you have royal collectibles of any kind for sale, we would love to make an offer or include them in one of our auctions. Can’t come to us? We make house calls.
